A working group of the ‘Energy Systems of the Future’ (ESYS) academy project, a joint initiative of acatech, Leopoldina and the Union of the German Academies, has analysed options for importing and transporting hydrogen. Electrolysis capacities

The H2-Compass project maintains a database of hydrogen production projects in Germany. For the first time, we are publishing the current status of announced electrolysis capacities up to 2030. Projects with a stated start date will require a cumulative electric power of 4.3 GW, which corresponds to just under 50% of the target agreed upon in the German Coalition agreement (10 GW).

Raw material needs

Many of the key raw materials needed for the production of electrolysers come from Russia. H2-Compass has therefore investigated what effects Russia’s war on Ukraine may have on Germany’s electrolyser production. We present the results of our analysis here.
